Shadow Mage (Blacklight Chronicles Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 716 ratings

Talis glimpses an alien world where Rikar, his old friend and traitor, is being tortured. He is tempted down a dark path leading to the forbidden knowledge of Shadow Magic, the magic he needs to keep from going insane.

The feud between the royal houses of Naru has Talis and Mara caught in the middle, and once again threatens their friendship. The magical Order of the Dawn distances themselves from Talis, pushing him aside to study the discarded magical art of runes. With civil war looming, Jiserian sorcerers again invade the city of Naru, and Talis must rise to help protect their city.

A mysterious sorcerer from the Tarasen Islands arrives, with eyes on the black crystal, aiming to create a World Portal to the planet where Aurellia and his Elders have escaped. Talis finds his heart wrenched between saving his city and saving the one person closest to him. Even after being trapped on an alien world, with no way back home, Talis realizes that his friendship with Mara and Nikulo is the key to their fate and survival.

I downloaded the first book of this series, Fire Mage, on an evening before i was due to fly across the country the next morning and needed some reading material. I was immediately immersed and couldn't put the book down. Unfortunately, I finished the book too quick and was left in anticipation for the next one. Immediately after I was connect back to the internet I downloaded and started reading book two, Sun Mage. Once again I was sucked into the world of Talis. Shadow Mage was equally exciting. My only regret is finishing them within a week! Can't wait for the 4th book to come out! I'm sure it won't disapoint.

Book Three continues with very fast-paced action - and although that's the style of writing I prefer, it may be a little too quick. A bit of time spent in the beginning of Book Three as to the continuing attacks by the Jiserians, how Talis helps the wizards to ward off their attacks, the swaying loyalty of the other wizards and why they won't teach him to fly would have set the stage a little better. There is no indication of how time has passed: if Book One starts when they are 13, how old are they by the end of Book Three? Also, throughout the three books, there are a number of spelling errors which disrupt the reading experience.

However, it is still another great read in the series in which the story and characters are developed even further. Whilst the concept of balance appears in many fantasy fiction books, in this series it's very well defined - nothing's all good or all bad. Great reading and recommended to readers of the genre.

Note to author : Please be kind to your readers and publish Book Four soon!

I generally enjoyed the story, which at times makes leaps across the story without meaningful development. Overall, a fun ready!

All of the books in this series are great! This book in particular was the best because of all the changes that happen to Talis. Also, the end really left me hanging because you find out that Tails, Nikulo, Mara, Rikar, Auriella, along with some ancients make it to Viella. I really wanted to know what happened next and that's what kept me hooked to the series; you always want to find out what happens next.

To unwind my brain at the end of a day, I quite often read the "young" to "teen" reader books. This one is clean, has a good theme, nice plot, and good character development. It's also one I could let my younger kids read. The only suggestion I could give would to make them a little longer. Other than that, excellent work !

This series has gotten better with each book and each chapter. I love the infusion of sci-fi in a fantasy adventure. Talis continues on his quest to save his friends and his city of Naru and the path laid out is not easy, but Talis proves he will be the Hero to do what has to be done. Rikar has shown his traitorous head again and Aurellia is up to his same old tricks. I really enjoyed this book as I have the first two. I recommend this book to kids and adults it is a clean a fun series. Enjoy.

Facing them. Wizards, dragons many imaginative critters worth a read. It does not follow any other type of fantasy I have read.

I have read the other two books in the series and I wasn't really convinced. So when I saw shadow mage I only took the sample to try it out, not really convinced that it would be for me.

However when I started reading I quickly reached the end of the sample and felt and urge to buy it and continue the story.

If you like the series and would like to follow the adventures of Tallis. I really recommend it.

This story continue with lots of magic, deceit, love and hatred and plenty action. It allow the reader to follow the life of the hero and his friends. My disappointment was it did not speak about dragons until the end of the book. What will happen in the following book, your guess is as good as mine.
